Preparing for Korea

So Ali and I have decided to have a blog together since writing on separate blogs seemed excessive; we'd both most likely be writing the same thing. This way, we can alternate who writes each entry. It gives a chance to focus on quality over quanity. I've never written a blog before, but Ali, having written one for Ghana, is now a seasoned veteran at this.

So, this is the first entry and it feels like I should write about something. Maybe what we're dong to prepare for Korea? Korea is now a week away, and we both will soon be rushing to get everything packed and make sure everythng is in order. One of the ways I'm preparing is by eating as much Western food as possible. I've been told about the style of cuisine and seen pictures so I should know what to expect, but it feels like I really won't truly have a grasp on what the food is like until I'm there. So naturally I've been eating a lot of licorice and curry chicken, western food staples in my opinion. I've never been a very picky eater so I should have no problem adjusting to the cuisine, unlike Ali, who may have more difficulty.

I've also been reading up on the language, eager to learn how to speak some Korean since that would probably make teaching and communicating with the students a lot easier. I've learned the Hangul letters and how to sound things out but, of course, I'm still a long way from being able to speak in sentences. It's hard to know if I'm pronouncing things right, so I'll be sure to test it out on native Koreans and look for either an understanding nod or a what-the-hell-are-you-saying-to-me nod.

You're probably on the edge of your seat right now reading my riveting thoughts so in the interest of keeping you safe and on your seat, I'll stop now. More to follow in the coming weeks.
